When it debuted in December 2012, Be Our Guest quickly became one of the most popular dining experiences in Magic Kingdom. Because everyone is still jumping at the chance to dine in the ballroom from Beauty and the Beast, dinner reservations have become extremely hard to come by. As we were planning our last WDW trip, we checked the availability of dining reservations frequently to try to score the coveted Be Our Guest reservation for dinner. One night, just a couple of months before our trip, we were equally shocked and excited when we saw a Be Our Guest reservation at 6:30 open up. We booked it immediately, and I felt like I had won the Disney lottery. (Now all I needed was an Anna and Elsa Fastpass.) So, how was dinner? Did it live up to the massive hype surrounding the restaurant?

The day of our reservation, we checked in outside Be Our Guest a little before 6:30pm. Given how popular the restaurant is, guests are not even allowed on the bridge to the castle unless they have a reservation. A few minutes later, we were called to enter the castle for dinner. There are three rooms – the Ballroom, the West Wing, and the Rose Gallery. While the West Wing is wonderfully themed,we requested to dine in the Ballroom, which is the location of the iconic dance scene between Belle and the Beast. We were thrilled when our request was granted. The Ballroom is simply beautiful with amazing chandeliers and a view of snow falling outside. Be Our Guest is by far Disney World’s best themed restaurant. You really feel like you’ve stepped into a fantasy world once you enter Beast’s Castle.

So, the theming, the architecture, the decor, the special effects all get enthusiastic thumbs up from us. But how was the food?

I had a tough time deciding what to order. On one hand, the Herb-Crusted Lamb Rack sounded amazing. But I really wanted the pommes frites that came with the Grilled Strip Steak. I ultimately chose the Lamb. Our waiter was nice enough to let me sub the buttered celery root for the pommes frites, so I could have the best of both worlds.

This meal was delicious! The two lamb chops were cooked perfectly and complemented by the mustard demi-glace. The fries along with a truffle aioli were fantastic as well.

Other meals at the table included the Thyme-scented Pork Rack Chop. I was told that Pork Chop was seasoned nicely and was moist and tender to eat. The au gratin macaroni was much better than the neon yellow stuff that is offered throughout the Disney parks. It was baked with penne pasta.

The loser of the group was the Pan-seared Salmon. It wasn’t bad, but just a little bland when compared to the other entrees at the table.

Once we finished our entrees, the “Master”, aka the Beast, entered the castle and walked across the main dining room. There is not official character dining at this location as he doesn’t stop at tables and visit with guests, but they do make a little bit of fanfare during his entrance. After Beast walked through the dining room, our waiter returned with the much anticipated dessert cart. How could you say no to this? I love the way that this is presented, and who can resist a little instant gratification when cupcakes and creme puffs are involved. There were a variety of cupcakes and creme puffs to choose from, but we decided on four options.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake – vanilla sponge cake, strawberry mousse filling, and cream cheese icing $4.19

Lemon Meringue Cupcake – Vanilla sponge cake, lemon custard filling, flamed meringue icing and crunch $4.19

The Grey Stuff $4.19

Chocolate Creme Puff $4.19

While all were delicious, our favorite was the Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake.

After paying the bill (and taking advantage of the 20% Tables in Wonderland discount), we were able to finally meet the Master! The cast members are very strict – no meeting Beast until after dinner. Luckily I didn’t have to pull out my receipt as proof, but they are very strict about this, as guests have to leave after the meet and greet. We enjoyed meeting the Beast and getting our picture.

There’s a reason Be Our Guest is so in demand. Dinner here was fantastic. While the salmon was just ok, everything else we got was flavorful. A definite step above what many consider “theme park food.” Combine that with a fantastic atmosphere that you can only get at Walt Disney World, and you have a winner. Overall, we definitely recommend trying to get a reservation for dinner at Be Our Guest. It might take some persistence, but dinner here is definitely worth the effort.
