Finally, a Marvel attraction inside Walt Disney World! …sort of. Marvel Studios’ next big movie is Guardians of the Galaxy, opening August 1st. It follows a rag-tag group of unorthodox heroes through the far reaches of space inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been describing Guardians as their most exciting and unique movie since the first Iron Man, and trailers so far have me really excited to see this movie. Check out the trailer, and find out how you can get a special sneak preview at Hollywood Studios starting July 4th.

Now just try getting “Hooked on a Feelin” out of your head. You can’t do it. It’s impossible.

This trailer shows exactly why this is the Marvel movie I’m most looking forward to (even over Avengers: Age of Ultron). It has stunning visuals, a great cast (Chris Pratt, Benicio del Toro, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, John C. Reilly, Glen Close), and a sci-fi setting that promises adventure, action, and humor. If Guardians of the Galaxy can bring all those elements together with a great story, then this could be a really great movie. It’s also exciting because these characters are relatively unknown to the general public. It could allow the filmmakers to take a few risks that would be otherwise impossible with characters that are a known-quantity.

If you want an extended 3D look at Guardians of the Galaxy, head to the ABC Sound Studio (former location of Sounds Dangerous) in Echo Lake at Hollywood Studios from July 4th to August 15th.

So, how exactly can Disney show this preview inside a Disney World park? As you may already know, before Disney bought Marvel, Universal secured the exclusive rights to Marvel characters in theme parks East of the Mississippi for Islands of Adventure. This is why Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America can hang out and be best friends in Innoventions in Disneyland but not in Epcot. (It’s a shame, really, because you would think Thor would get a kick out of the Maelstrom. And I’d bet Cap would cry every time he watched The American Adventure.)

However, as Theme Park Insider brilliantly explained, Disney is able to preview Guardians of the Galaxy because the movie doesn’t contain any characters from any of the groups of characters that are being used by Universal. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot aren’t X-Men or Avengers: They are Guardians of the Galaxy. So Disney is free to use them inside Disney World as long as they don’t actually use the word Marvel.
