Walt Disney World does not have a shortage of sweets. There’s the iconic Dole Whip. The traditional funnel cake. The decadent German caramels. The list goes on. So when I found out last year that an ice cream shop would be opening in Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie’s old location, I was a little puzzled. The France Pavilion already had treats abound between the bakery and the creperie. Did Epcot, let alone the France Pavilion, need another dessert option?

While one could debate if anyone really “needs” ice cream, I’ll argue that L’Artisan des Glaces has been a fantastic addition to the World Showcase.

First of all, let’s talk about the space. Les Halles Boulangerie has always been near and dear to my heart, but its galley style layout was a bit cramped. Now that L’Artisan des Glaces has taken over the space, there’s a bit more room to breathe. The shop is painted in a cool but light palate that is both a nice contrast from the dim brown bakery and befitting of an ice cream shop. Just stepping into L’Artisan is cool and refreshing on a hot Orlando day.

Hidden Mickey Ice Cream - L'Artisan des Glaces - Epcot Dining - Disney World

One of my favorite things about L’Artisan is that it offers a French twist on the ice cream parlor that most Disney World visitors would be familiar with. 16 flavors make up the shop’s menu: 10 ice creams and 6 sorbets. There are the classic flavors such as Chocolate, Vanilla, or Mint-Chocolate. Those who want a more exotic flavor can try the Pistachio, Coco-white Chocolate, or Profiterole. Strawberry and Melon are at the top of our list of sorbet flavors. Ice creams and sorbets are served one or two scoops in a cup or a waffle cone.

Want even more of a twist? Try the Ice Cream Martini, which includes 2 scoops of ice cream and a shot of Grand Marnier, Whipped Cream Vodka, or Rum. All of this is served in a martini glass. Leave it to the French to add this elegant touch to ice cream. While it is the priciest menu option at $11.50, it could be one of those perfect “treat yo’self” desserts. It also adds a new dynamic to “drinking around the World.”

Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich - Epcot Dessert

I’m saving the best for last: the Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich. This little bit of heaven is cold, creamy, and crunchy. If the incredible flavor and texture wasn’t enough, it’s presented in a newspaper wrapper. How cute! We recently listed it as number 2 in our 10 Best Desserts in Disney World, beating out some of my other favorite treats from Epcot’s France Pavilion. The macaron had been previously only available in chocolate, but L’Artisan des Glaces has added seasonal flavors. Naturally, the flavor for this fall is Pumpkin Spice. Now you can get a Pumpkin Spice Latte in Future World and a Pumpkin Spice Macaron in the World Showcase!

With so many desserts at Disney World, it takes a lot to stand out. L’Artisan des Glaces has done that. Visiting the quaint ice cream shop, sitting down at a table outside, and enjoying a macaron has become a new WDW tradition for me. I hope it will stay that way for years to come.
