We have an incoming transmission from Batuu, on the edge of the galaxy. A much anticipated attraction finally has an opening date and a stunning new poster. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, which Disney has been touting as the signature ride at Galaxy’s Edge and its most ambitious attraction ever, will arrive at Disney’s Hollywood Studios late this year. And surprisingly, it will not open at Disneyland until early next year.

Rise of the Resistance Disney World Opening Date: December 5, 2019

Rise of the Resistance Disneyland Opening Date: January 17, 2020

Considering that Disneyland’s version of Galaxy’s Edge opened several months ahead of WDW’s August 29th debut makes this news pretty surprising. I would have thought the odds would have been pretty long for Rise of the Resistance opening first at Disney World. But I guess you should never tell me the odds.

While it’s a little painful to have to wait another six months or so to be able to experience this ride, Disney has released an awesome poster for the attraction. It makes it feel like it will be an epic encounter, on the level of the best battles in Star Wars.

Rise of the Resistance Attraction Poster

If you’re wondering what exactly Rise of the Resistance is, here’s a brief recap of our best intel. In Rise of the Resistance, Rey and General Leia will recruit guests to join the Resistance at their secret base. That’s when things take a slight detour, and the new recruits will be captured by the First Order on a Star Destroyer. Guests must escape as an epic battle takes place between the forces of good and evil. This is Disney’s first major attraction in the United States to use a trackless ride system, and it promises to be a huge step forward in themed entertainment.

With The Rise of Skywalker debuting in theaters on December 20 and Rise of the Resistance debuting on both coasts within days of that, this makes December/January a great time for Star Wars fans to rise.

Are you looking forward to Rise of the Resistance? Will you be there on opening day? Does this change your travel plans? Let me know in the comments below, or on Facebook.
