I am not ashamed to admit that I am a huge Star Wars fan. I grew up loving the original trilogy, and I had a closet full of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader action figures to prove it. While not every thing that George Lucas created in Star Wars is a gem (I’m looking at you, Jar Jar), the magic of lightsaber battles, jedis, and scruffy nerf herders still holds a special place in my nerdy nerdy heart.

That’s why that it’s with great disappointment I must confess that I’ve never made it to Walt Disney World while Hollywood Studios hosts Star Wars Weekends. The event looks to be a great celebration for Star Wars fans, and there are three reasons that I am secretly seething with jealousy of those lucky enough to attend Star Wars Weekends in 2012.

Reason 1 I wish I was at Star Wars Weekends: I could get frozen in Carbonite.

The Empire Strikes Back remains my favorite Star Wars movie, and it stands as one of the best movies of all time, in my humble opinion. Besides the “Luke, I am your father” scene, the gut-wrenching betrayal and subsequent freezing of Han Solo in Carbonite stands out as one of the more memorable scenes in that film.

This year, Disney has provided guests with a chance to see what it would look like if Lando gave them up to Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt. For $99.95, you can immortalize your love of Star Wars with the Carbon-Freeze Me Experience. While that is a bit of a steep price to pay, you will get a three-dimensional, eight-inch figuring of yourself cast in Carbonite, just like Mr. Solo. This unique collectable would make a great addition to my bookshelf, but since I can’t make it to Star Wars Weekends, all I can do is hope they bring guest-carbon-freezing back another time.

Reservations are required for this experience. Make your reservation at 407-WDW-TECH (407–939–8324).

Reason 2 I wish I was at Star Wars Weekends: I could eat delicious food out of R2D2.

Churros with chocolate sauce. Corn dogs. Milkshakes and frozen lemonade. These are just a few of the treats you can enjoy eating and drinking out of commemorative R2D2 containers. Rather than blather on about how much I desperately want all of these, I’ll just show you the images of the droid confections in all their glory.

Reason 3 I wish I was at Star Wars Weekends: I could watch Hyperspace Hoopla in person.

Ok, I’m just gonna come out and say it: I kind of love Hyperspace Hoopla. This annual dance competition features both favorite and obscure Star Wars characters doing fully choreographed routines to hit pop songs. Is it weird and a little cheesy that these characters are in a dance competition? Yes, but in the best way possible. If the video above from Inside the Magic of Darth Vader and Boba Fett getting their groove on to Smooth Criminal makes you smile, even just a little bit, you should check out this one of a kind show.

Of course, there’s plenty more at Star Wars Weekends for fans to get excited about, including celebrity appearances and other unique retail and dining opportunities. But those are my three top reasons that I regret that I am far away from Disney World for the next three weekends.
