While D23 was chock full of announcements for Epcot and Hollywood Studios, Disney didn’t forget about its most popular theme park. In time for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021, Magic Kingdom will receive a new theater on Main Street and a massive new E-Ticket attraction in Tomorrowland. That’s right: Tron Lightcycle Power Run, the popular roller coaster from Shanghai Disneyland, is coming to Walt Disney World.

Tron Lightcycle Power Run Opening by 2021

Tron Lightcycle Run coming to Magic Kingdom

Tron Lightcycle Run is an indoor/outdoor roller rollercoaster set in the world of Tron that opened at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016. Featuring unique lightcycle seats and a launch, it was instantly one of the standout original attractions at Shanghai, and stateside Disney fans immediately began hoping it would somehow come to the US. Their hopes have been answered, as Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek announced that the Tron Lightcycle Power Run coaster will be built in a new part of Tomorrowland, next to Space Mountain. While it was rumored that it would replace the Tomorrowland Speedway, Disney’s concept art shows that the East Coast Autopia will remain intact.

As this is a more intense coaster that features an amazing futuristic aesthetic, this should be a great complement to Space Mountain and an awesome addition to Magic Kingdom. No word on when the attraction will open beyond “in time for the 50th anniversary.” Fortunately, Disney has plenty opening between now and then to keep us occupied.

New Theater Coming to Main Street

Magic Kingdom Theater

The other piece of Magic Kingdom news coming out of D23 is the addition of a new theater, located just off of Main Street. The theater will be modeled after the famous Willis Theater from 1920s Kansas City. No word on what type of entertainment will be coming to this theater, other than it will be a”world class” stage show, in the vein of the Finding Nemo Musical in Animal Kingdom.
