May the 4th be with you! For years, Disney Imagineering has hinted that they’ve been working on a “real” lightsaber. While the lightsabers that you can build at Savi’s at Galaxy’s Edge are amazingly detailed, the blade is always sticking out of the hilt, and turning on just illuminates it. A few weeks ago, Disney Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared a glimpse of a lightsaber with journalists where the blade protruded out of the hilt, just like in the movies.

Now we are finally seeing what that real lightsaber looks like. Even though the glimpse is quick, it’s pretty amazing.

Did you see that?!?! Go ahead, watch it on repeat a few times. Here’s what Disney Parks Blog has to say about the new lightsaber:

“Yes, that’s a new type of lightsaber Rey is holding in her hand, created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development. Guests who experience Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be the first to see it in action – along with so much more – starting in 2022 when this amazing new two-night adventure debuts. Watching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes will be just one of the countless ways that, from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions – or even the casual conversations you may have – determine how your personal journey unfolds.”

It looks like you’ll have to board the Halcyon in Orlando to see this blade in action, but this should be making its way to other Star Wars experiences after its debut on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (Disney World’s Star Wars hotel experience). And we can only hope that this super cool lightsaber will be available for purchase one day.

What do you think about Disney’s “real” lightsaber? Does this make you more likely to visit Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser in 2022?
