At today’s Destination D23 presentation, Disney Parks President Josh D’Amaro announced some new technology coming to the Disneyland Resort in 2022.

The first huge announcement is that MagicBands are finally coming to Disneyland! Since debuting at Walt Disney World in 2013, Disneyland fans have wondered when the wearable will make its West Coast debut. We finally have our answer. MagicBand+ will be debuting at both Disney World and Disneyland in 2022. MagicBands will have the same functionality at Disneyland as Disney World: You can use them to get into the parks, open your hotel room, make payments, and get in the Lightning Lane line. MagicBand+ will have additional functionality, such as:

  • Play like a bounty hunter in a galaxy far, far away and find virtual bounties throughout Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Experience nighttime spectaculars in a new way as you see your band light up and complement the magic in the skies.

Disneyland will have some exclusive MagicBand+ designs.

D’Amaro also announced that Hey Disney will be coming to Disneyland Resort. The virtual assistant had been previously announced for Walt Disney World. Using an Amazon Echo Show device, Hey Disney will act like a Disney-specific Alexa, which can help with room requests such as room service or asking for more towels, as well as letting you know vital park information.

No specific date has been given, except 2022.
