We are just over a month away from the debut of Disney World’s newest nighttime spectacular. Rivers of Light will premiere at Animal Kingdom on April 22. Taking place on the Discovery River near Expedition Everest in Asia, the show seems to be unlike anything at WDW, yet a perfect way to end the day at Animal Kingdom. Disney Parks Blog describes the show as follows:

“The show, set on Discovery River in the Asia section of the park, will depict an ancient lantern festival guided by two storytellers who call forth four animal Spirit Guides: an Asian Tiger, Tropical Turtle, African Elephant and Great Horned Owl. These Spirit Guides return at different points during the show to lead the audience through their journey through the Rivers of Light.”

The video above highlights some of the elements of the show, including beautiful water projections, moving projections, and illuminated lanterns. Basically, it looks like a lot of the special effects and elements from California Adventure’s popular World of Color fountain show are being used to put on a show that is entirely appropriate for Animal Kingdom. We at Guide2WDW are very excited for this new show. From a conceptual point of view, Rivers of Light is Disney’s most unique nighttime show since IllumiNations, in that it doesn’t rely on Disney’s established properties and seeks to be doing something culturally ambitious for a theme park. Hopefully all these elements will come together to create an unforgettable show for guests.
