Good news! Disney World will not be making Genie+ markedly worse in the next few days. Five extremely popular attractions will stay part of the service, despite Disney previously announcing they would be removed.
So, what happened?
Disney World has been updating its Genie+ lineup since the paid line skipping service debuted last year. Several attractions that started as Individual Lightning Lane were temporarily converted to Genie+ Lightning Lane, but scheduled to return to Individual Lightning Lane on August 7. As we expected, Disney has reversed the decision, keeping the following attractions as Genie+ Lightning Lane options.
- Space Mountain – Magic Kingdom
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure – EPCOT
- Frozen Ever After – EPCOT
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – Hollywood Studios
- Expedition Everest – Animal Kingdom
As a refresher, Lightning Lane is the term for a shorter priority line that you can access one of two ways. Genie+ is a $15 per day service that gives you one-at-a-time access to the Lightning Lane at a lineup of dozens of Disney World attractions. There are also Individual Lightning Lane attractions, which are not included with Genie+. These are the most popular/newest attractions at WDW, and you can only access the Lightning Lane by purchasing Individual Lightning Lane reservations a la carte, ranging from $7-$18 per person per ride. You can read up on all the differences in our Genie+ and Lightning Lane Explainer.
Currently, Disney Word only has four Individual Lightning Lane attractions, one at each park.
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – Magic Kingdom
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – EPCOT
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – Hollywood Studios
- Avatar: Flight of Passage – Animal Kingdom
We expect Tron: Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom to join that lineup of Individual Lightning Lane attractions when it opens, most likely later this year.
This is a great move by Disney. Genie+ has struggled to meet the demand at Disney World since it debuted, with popular reservations running out very early in the day. For those who know how to get the most out of Genie+, it can be worth the money. But Disney World has lowered expectations on what the average guest can expect to get out of Genie+. Keeping these popular rides as Genie+ attractions helps the service provide more value to guests, as it adds much needed capacity for Lightning Lane reservations.
