Disney World and Disneyland will change their masking guidelines starting February 17 for fully vaccinated guests. Currently, masks are required indoors and on transportation for all guests over the age of 2. Starting this Thursday, masking rules will go back to where they were last summer, before the Delta and Omicron surges.
With cases on a downward trajectory, states and cities are moving to lift their mask mandates, and Disney theme parks are no exception to this trend.
What are the new mask rules at Disney World and Disneyland?
For guests who are fully vaccinated, masks will now be optional both outdoors and indoors.
For guests who are not vaccinated, masks will still be required indoors, including rides, queues, and in restaurants, except while actively eating and drinking.
If you thought this means you don’t need to pack a mask when you go to Disneyland or Disney World, that will not be the case. Masks will continue to be required for all guests on enclosed transportation, such as buses, monorails, and the Skyliner. So a mask still stays on our list of must-pack items for Disney World. (I’m really looking forward to the day when I can take that off the list.)
These rules are very similar to what they were last summer. Because Disney did not check vaccination status, this effectively made masks optional at both Disney World and Disneyland. I would expect that this new rule change will have a similar effect, as Disney has not changed their policy on checking vaccination status.
