Later this year, the eagle will have landed, hopefully bringing a selection of delicious smoky meats to Epcot’s American Adventure Pavilion. Disney recently announced that Epcot’s current quick service restaurant in the US Pavilion Liberty Inn will close on July 8th to make room for a new barbecue restaurant named Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue.

That’s right, one of Epcot’s least loved restaurants will be closing in less than a week, and I couldn’t be happier. Maybe it’s in bad taste to gloat about Liberty Inn’s closure so soon after it was announced, but that’s nothing compared to the bad taste it has been leaving in guest’s mouths over the years. (Insert rim shot here). Let’s face it, for its reputation as the foodie theme park, Epcot’s American fare sorely lacked in comparison to the other spectacular offerings found around the World Showcase. Barbecue makes so much sense in the American Adventure pavilion, and with Disney’s recent track record with opening quick service restaurants inside the theme parks, I’m hopeful that they’ll be able to craft a crowd-pleasing menu.

Not too much is known about the menu of Regal Eagle Smokehouse, other than it will be a “fast-casual barbecue restaurant featuring craft brews on tap.” Expect a newly designed outdoor patio area and a large smoker that will entice guests as they hop from country to country. We’ll find out more about Epcot’s new barbecue restaurant when it opens up later in 2019.
