The Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom has officially reopened to guests today, after being closed for four years for the construction of the Tron Lightcycle Run roller coaster.

For many Disney World guests, the reopening of the Walt Disney World Railroad is cause for celebration and a welcome surprise. Tron Lightcycle Run is currently in testing, and Tomorrowland’s new thrill ride is slated to open in Spring 2023. It wasn’t clear when Magic Kingdom would see the return of its grand circle tour, and it was reasonable to think it wouldn’t reopen until Tron was 100% ready to launch for the public.

Guests will also be excited to hear that there are a few new additions to this classic Magic Kingdom ride, including a brand new narration. The train also goes through a tunnel under Tron Lightcycle Run, offering riders a view of the roller coaster vehicles whizzing by.

From Disney:

“This opening-day attraction returns with a completely refreshed track looping the park and an all-new voiceover guiding guests as they travel from one magical land to the next”

Walt Disney World Railroad Reopens at Magic Kingdom - Steam Train
Disney

Open since 1971, the Walt Disney World Railroad offers a scenic journey around the perimeter of Magic Kingdom, with stops at Main Street, U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland. Trains are a crucial part of the character of Magic Kingdom, as Walt Disney’s interest in building Disneyland can be traced back to his passion for model trains. Some have said that Disneyland was the world’s biggest model train kit.

The trains themselves are a piece of Disney history, with the steam engines being restored and refurbished versions of the ones used at Disneyland when it opened in 1955. The trains are also decorated with intricate detailing, making them a must-see for any Disney fan. Whether you’re a fan of classic Disney attractions or are just looking for a relaxing way to see the park, the Walt Disney World Railroad is a must-do.
