Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow…

Today marks the 40th Anniversary of one of my favorite rides in all of Disney World: the PeopleMover. Over the years it’s had different names: The WEDway PeopleMover, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, and finally the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. The ride gives guests a relaxing tour over Tomorrowland, winding over the attractions and even through Space Mountain.

The PeopleMover is not the sort of ride that will ever get the same sort of attention and acclaim that the mountains of the Magic Kingdom do, but for me it’s as integral a part of my Disney World vacation as any other ride. Part of it has to do with nostalgia. When I was too little to go on Space Mountain, my mom and I would ride on the PeopleMover over and over again while my dad and sister waited in line for the roller coaster. I loved taking in the sights, listening to the narration, catching the subtle (and not so subtle) jokes along the way. I still appreciate that to this day. Much like the Walt Disney World Railroad, the PeopleMover is a change of pace ride that helps me relax and soak in the environment. Also, it almost never has a long line, making it easily one of my most recommended “overlooked gems” at Disney World.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the PeopleMover opening, Disney is releasing a limited edition WEDway shirt and poster, on sale today until Sunday, July 5. If you’re interested in this attraction-specific merchandise, go to DisneyStore.com to check it out.

The PeopleMover is a fantastic attraction, and has been since July 1, 1975. Here’s to 40 more years  of touring the future.
