Disney announced today that their new Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lane services will debut on October 19 at Walt Disney World. In case you missed it, Genie and Lightning Lane are Disney World’s replacements for FastPass.

Here’s a quick summary of how the systems will work.

  • Genie: The free addition to the Disney World MyDisneyExperience app. Genie will give you recommendations for which rides to go to, projected wait times, help with dining reservations and mobile order.
  • Genie+: $15/day add-on at Disney World. This gives you one-at-a-time same-day access to most Lightning Lane attractions, like Millennium Falcon and Splash Mountain. There is also some bonus content like photo filters and audio
  • Lightning Lane: This is the new name for FastPass. It is a shorter line for people with reservations.
  • Individual Lightning Lane Selections: Not included in Genie+, Individual Lightning Lane Selections are per-ride purchases. For example, you can spend $15 per person to get Lightning Lane access to Rise of the Resistance, or $9 for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

Similar to a navigation app on your phone, Disney Genie continues to update your itinerary from morning to night as the day changes, so you can stay spontaneous and go with the flow – whether you need a nap, encounter an unexpected rain shower or want to take a detour for a Mickey ice cream bar.

Many of you have asked about how this cool new technology works. Behind the scenes, the app is capable of magically evaluating thousands of possible itineraries in seconds – so you don’t even have to think about it! Disney Genie puts guests at the center of the experience by prioritizing ways to:

  • Reduce time in lines while keeping in mind your top picks
  • Pace your day with experiences you’ll enjoy – and haven’t already done yet
  • Build around your existing plans like dining reservations and Park Hopper preferences
