We are exactly a month away from the official launch of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. Disney World has released the first official video footage with people riding EPCOT’s first roller coaster.
If you’re spoiler-averse, turn back now.
If you’re curious about what Disney World’s first Marvel ride will look like — including that backwards launch — rock on! You can watch the video below, and I’ll have a breakdown of what the footage reveals about the ride.
One of the first things we see is Rocket and Groot, shown through video screens/projection.
It has been confirmed that this ride will not feature any animatronics. That’s a shame, since the Rocket animatronic at California Adventure’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout is very impressive.
Unsurprisingly, the Rocket and Groot look as good as they do in the Guardians and Avengers movies.
Here’s one of the first glimpses of the ride in action. This appears to be the top of a lift hill. This shot reminded me a bit of Space Mountain at Disneyland. In my opinion, this is a very good sign.
In fact, with the giant Celestial Eson chasing you throughout the ride, the whole thing gives me vibes of Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy at Disneyland, except cranked up all the way to 11. Since this ride will feature the latest in projection technology, having a villain on a cosmic scale chasing you should be pretty thrilling.
We also get a shot of the backwards launch. There appears to be some energy field zapping all around you as this happens. Since the ride is rumored to take you back in time all the way to the Big Bang, I think it’s safe to say that this energy field conveys rewinding backwards in time.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opens in EPCOT on May 27.
We want to hear from you!
