Announced back in 2020, Walt Disney Imagineering will be overhauling Splash Mountain with a Princess and the Frog theme. However, we haven’t had many new details in the two years since this major reimagining was announced. Until today.
We now know the attraction’s new name, as well as when Disney will throw B’rer Rabbit into the briar patch in favor of Princess Tiana and friends.
What is Splash Mountain’s new name?
Splash Mountain’s new name will be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Tiana is the name of the titular princess from Princess and the Frog. A bayou is a marshy river or lake, which are found all over the New Orleans setting of the movie.
The new name will replace Splash Mountain at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
When does Tiana’s Bayou Adventure open?
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open in late 2024 at both Disney World and Disneyland.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Storyline
Per Disney Parks Blog, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure “will take guests on a musical adventure inspired by the beloved story and characters from the fan-favorite film. Picking up where the film left off, guests will join Princess Tiana, Naveen and jazz-loving alligator Louis on an adventure through the bayou as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration where everyone is welcome. Along the way, guests will encounter familiar faces, make new friends and travel through the bayou to original music inspired by songs from the film as they are brought into the next chapter of Tiana’s story.”
Imagineers are drawing a lot of inspiration from Princess and the Frog’s New Orleans setting. This will be a natural fit for Disneyland’s version of the ride, which sits at the edge of New Orleans Square. According to Charita Carter, executive producer of relevancy activations at Walt Disney Imagineering:
”Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a love letter to New Orleans. Like the musical city that inspired this attraction, Tiana’s second act is about a community working in harmony to achieve something extraordinary. She reminds us of an immutable truth we can all relate to: ‘if you do your best each and every day, good things are sure to come your way.’ And that’s a melody we can all sing along to!”
We want to hear from you!

I’m so excited for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World. I can’t wait!
I’m excited too! I love the original ride, but I’m hopeful that Disney will add some next-gen animatronics and effects to the new version.
I am very upset splash mountain is leaving. It was a park staple . Also a great time with my family when I was a child. I love reliving and making such memories with my children that I once shared with my parents. So I am not happy at all. Also to cancel culture the movie I believe does more of a disservice to Uncle Remus and Mammy. For the time frame the movie came out it actually in my opinion pushed forward to the idea for us as humans to befriend and treat all with kindness. But I’ll just go watch pocohantas and sing along to savages and that people with “ milky hides are empty inside and wonder if they even bleed?”
