Just a week after announcing the shocking closure of the famously expensive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Disney World has quickly sold out the remaining voyages for this unique, immersive attraction. In an unexpected twist, the news of the closure seemed to fuel a surge of bookings, as die-hard Star Wars and Starcruiser fans jumped at their last chance to experience the one-of-a-kind Star Wars-themed hotel. The FOMO is strong with this one.
Disney had made headlines last week with the unexpected announcement that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser would be closing its doors on September 28-30, 2023. This immersive, interactive Star Wars hotel was known for both its cutting-edge theming and its galaxy-sized price tag – starting at $4800 for two guests.
Galactic Starcruiser Final Voyages Quickly Sold Out After Disney Reopened Bookings
After the closure announcement, Disney paused bookings until May 26, providing guests who had booked voyages in October 2023 and beyond a chance to reschedule their Starcruiser adventures.
However, as soon as bookings reopened on May 26 at 7 am, the remaining voyages began to fill up at hyperspeed. By 4:30 pm, all of the remaining dates for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser were sold out – less than 12 hours after bookings reopened to the general public.
“As of May 26, 2023 at 4:30pm ET, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is unavailable for new bookings. However, availability may still be subject to change and a very limited number of rooms could become available for new bookings from time to time.”
If you were hoping to snag a spot aboard the Halcyon, there is still a glimmer of hope. You will have to stay vigilant and check periodically for cancellations if you are still dreaming of going on your own Star Wars adventure.
Video – Why is Disney shutting down Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?
If you’re wondering why Disney would possibly be shutting down something that would sell out so quickly, you’re not alone. I made this video laying out the five main reasons why Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was closing. Does this mean that Disney World will not close Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?
While anything is possible, I really doubt it. Disney has already announced that they will take up to a $300 million loss on this closure. The surge of demand caused by the closure announcement definitely shows that there is interest in this concept. However, there is definitely an effect of people rushing to book so they don’t miss out on the experience. This level of demand was not there when Starcruiser was expected to be open indefinitely. As I laid out in the video above, there are some structural issues that make sustained success a challenge.
I hope that Disney sees this level of enthusiasm and demand – even if much of it is spurred by the closure announcement – as a sign that they should not abandon this concept entirely.
We want to hear from you!
Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser may be preparing for its final voyage, but it’s clearly leaving a significant impact. Its closure is certainly a loss for Star Wars enthusiasts and fans of themed entertainment, but the rush of last-minute bookings also serves as a testament to the unique and captivating experiences Imagineering created.
