A Good Attraction, Worth A Moderate Wait

Closed since March 2020, Fantasmic will reopen at Hollywood Studios on November 3rd, 2022. For full details on the show’s reopening, check out our article detailing everything new with Fantasmic when it returns.

Located in the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater, Fantasmic stars a wide array of Disney characters from Jafar to Mickey Mouse. A visual spectacle, Fantasmic consists of live actors, fireworks, music, and water effects. While all of the effects are impressive and the show is entertaining, it lacks an element that would effectively tie everything together. It feels too much like a parade of everyone’s favorite characters rather than a show with a really strong story. Fantasmic is definitely worth checking out, as it makes for a great time. But the constant crowds and long waits make it hard to justify repeat visits.

However, when Fantasmic reopens, it will feature a new Disney Hero sequence featuring Aladdin, Moana, Mulan, and Elsa. The show will also feature enhanced effects, which should make Fantasmic worth checking out if you’ve been skipping it on your last few Disney World visits.

Tips and Trivia

  • In the past, Disney has recommended getting to the amphitheater at least a half-hour ahead of the showtime. Their most current guidance recommends showing up 90 minutes ahead of time.
  • This attraction previously featured FastPass+. We aren’t sure if Fantasmic will have Genie+ Lightning Lane when it reopens, but it’s possible it will feature Lightning Lane sometime in the future. Once we see how the new crowd patterns shake out for the updated show, we’ll update our Hollywood Studios Lightning Lane Guide. However, we did not recommend this as a FastPass+ selection. When we used FastPass+ for Fantasmic, they were allowing people with FastPass+ to enter the amphitheater up to an hour before showtime, and there were hundreds of people with FastPass+. To get a good seat, we still had to show up early.  Also, non-Fastpass+ guests were let in the amphitheater around the same time, but were led to the right part of the seating rather than the left. It just didn’t seem to be worth using a reservation if it doesn’t save you time or guarantee you a great seat.
  • The best way to guarantee good seating without a long wait is to purchase a Fantasmic Dining Package from one of the participating restaurants at Hollywood Studios.
  • Hungry? Concessions such as nachos and popcorn are sold inside the amphitheater.

Visitor Comments

“The Fantasmic show is a must. Very cool effects and imagery. If you are going to see it, make sure you get there at least 1 to 1.5 hours ahead because the place gets packed. The day that I went, they had to close the entrances because there was no place left anywhere for you to seat or stand. Don’t seat all the way in the front if you don’t want to get wet because the water effects, you might get splashed.” – Gilberto
