One of the most popular attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be temporarily closing next month. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is scheduled to be closed for a lengthy refurbishment beginning on February 20, 2023.
Fans of the high-speed roller coaster, which takes guests on a thrilling ride through the streets of Los Angeles set to the music of Aerosmith, will want to make sure to “walk this way” to Hollywood Studios to ride it one last time before it closes for the refurbishment. The ride, which we consider to be the third best roller coaster at Disney World, is expected to be closed until Summer 2023, with an exact reopening date not yet announced.
During the refurbishment, the attraction will receive much-needed maintenance, including work on the track and vehicles. It’s not uncommon for Disney to close attractions for refurbishments, as the company is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operations for all of its rides and attractions. Last year, Expedition Everest underwent a similarly lengthy refurbishment.
However, we currently aren’t expecting any drastic changes to the ride or theming, as the ride will be receiving routine maintenance. Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster has long been rumored to be on the slate for an update, as it has had the same Aerosmith theme and soundtrack since it opened in 1999. At Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster was rethemed to Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, starring Iron Man and Captain Marvel. While that version of the ride contractually can’t come to Disney World due to Marvel’s existing licensing agreement with Universal Islands of Adventure, it has long made sense that Disney would rework the coaster to feature one of their properties.
Fans hoping for something new coming to Sunset Boulevard will have to keep waiting a bit longer.
While it’s always disappointing when a beloved attraction closes for a refurbishment, the end result of a ride that works safely and efficiently is always worth the wait.
In the meantime, there are plenty of other exciting attractions to enjoy at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including the Tower of Terror, Rise of the Resistance, Star Tours, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Check out our full list of the Best Rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to see what other rides you should check out while this coaster is closed.
We will keep you updated on the progress of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith refurbishment and let you know as soon as a reopening date is announced. Stay tuned!
