Another big change is coming today to Genie+, and this one will be a relief for parents of kids who want to meet some of their favorite characters at Disney World. WDW is expanding the lineup of Lightning Lane attractions included with Genie+ to include a select number of character sightings. As a reminder, sightings are like meet and greets, but they are distanced and don’t include hugs or autographs. They’re a way to get a picture with Disney characters and have a brief interaction with them.

Disney World is adding four character sightings to Genie+, starting January 26.

  • See Cinderella and a Visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall at Magic Kingdom Park
  • See Princess Tiana and a Visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall at Magic Kingdom Park
  • See Mickey at Town Square Theater at Magic Kingdom Park
  • See Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

First of all, it’s great to see Disney World expanding the amount of attractions offered through Genie+. The more attractions they can include, the better value the $15 ticket add-on will be. While this is a small number of sightings included, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this expanded to include some of the character sightings that just returned to EPCOT.

However, this adds three attractions to Magic Kingdom and one to Hollywood Studios, which both already had the strongest Lightning Lane lineups according to our Guide 2 Lightning Lane at Disney World. I’m sure Disney prioritized the most popular characters to add to Genie+ first, but both EPCOT and Animal Kingdom are in desperate need of a Lightning Lane expansion. Also, this inclusion underscores how much of a value add that PhotoPass is at Disneyland, which is included in Genie+ there but not at Walt Disney World. It would be great if Disney World would include PhotoPass in Genie+, especially now that you can use the service to meet with characters like Mickey Mouse.
