Disney World has once again updated the Genie+ lineup for its theme parks. Like they did back during the holidays, Disney is now including three major rides in Genie+ that were previously available through Individual Lightning Lane.
New attractions now included with Genie+
- Space Mountain – Magic Kingdom
- Frozen Ever After – EPCOT
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – Hollywood Studios
Is this Genie+ change temporary?
Disney says this is a “temporary” move, with the change set to expire on August 7. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if this “temporary” move ends up being permanent, like when Rise of the Resistance moved from Boarding Groups to a traditional standby queue.
When Disney World moved these attractions (plus Expedition Everest) from Individual Lightning Lane to Genie+ over the holidays, they did revert them back. I think this case is different because rather than a change for a busy few weeks, this change is slated to last months. I think Disney is calling this move temporary so they have more options in the future.
What about Expedition Everest?
Unlike the last Genie+/Individual Lightning Lane switch, Expedition Everest isn’t included in this list. Why? Because Expedition Everest is currently undergoing a lengthy refurbishment. I would expect Expedition Everest to join the Genie+ lineup once it reopens later in 2022.
What’s the difference between Individual Lightning Lane and Genie Plus Lightning Lane?
With Individual Lightning Lane, you pay a la carte to get front of the line access for one ride, usually the most popular ride in the park. For instance, you would pay $15 to skip to the front of the line at Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios. With Genie+, you pay a flat daily rate per person, giving you one at a time access to a lineup of multiple Lightning Lane attractions.
