Disney Genie has arrived at Walt Disney World. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to enroll in Disney Genie, which is the free service that provides recommendations for your Disney World vacation. Disney Genie can be a powerful tool for managing your day from your smartphone, so we recommend getting everything set up before you arrive to Orlando.
In this entry in our Guide 2 Disney Genie, we’re sharing our step-by-step guide on how to set up Disney Genie.
Step 1: Download the latest version of the MyDisneyExperience app onto your smartphone.
Disney just updated MyDisneyExperience, which is the official Disney World app, to include Disney Genie and other new features. Before you go to Disney World, be sure to download the latest version of the app. This app is a vital way to manage your Disney World vacation, from making dining reservations to looking up wait times – both things that Disney Genie makes a bit simpler. We always recommend downloading it and having it up to date before you travel to WDW.
In order to use the MyDisneyExperience app and Disney Genie, you’ll need to be logged into your Disney account. If you already have an account through shopDisney or Disney+, you can use the same login/account. From the home page of the MyDisneyExperience app, click Sign In. If you need to create an account, you can also do so by clicking “Create an Account.” You can also create an account now by going to MyDisneyExperience.com or disneyworld.disney.go.com/login and click “Create an Account.”
Step 3: Click “Summon Disney Genie”
There are a few ways to access Disney Genie from the app.
On the home page, there’s a banner highlighting Disney Genie Service. You can press the “Summon Disney Genie” button to get started.
Press the Plus button in the middle of the bottom menu bar to bring up a list of actions. Press the “View my Genie Day and Tip Board” to go to Genie within the app. Go to the My Day tab, then click “Get Started Now” to set up Genie.
Press the three lines (also known as a hamburger menu) on the bottom right of the menu bar. You can select “My Genie Day” or “Tip Board” to access Disney Genie. Go to the My Day tab, then click “Get Started Now” to set up Genie.
A page with a lamp will come up once you press one of the buttons listed above. Select “Start Now” to start the Genie setup process.
Step 4: Link Your Tickets
If you haven’t already linked your tickets within the MyDisneyExperience app, you’ll be prompted to do so now. If you have existing tickets or a room booked with tickets, click “Link Tickets.” If you need to buy tickets, click “Select Tickets” and you’ll be given options between day tickets and Annual Passes to purchase.
If you’ve already linked your tickets, you will be able to skip this step.
Step 5: Select Your Date, Park, and Party
Now you will begin the onboarding process for Disney Genie. First, you’ll let Disney Genie know which date and park you’ll be visiting. This is not the same as making a Disney Park reservation, which you will need to do to be able to actually enter the park. You’ll then need to confirm your party.
Step 6: Let Genie Know Your Top Picks and Interests
You’ll now be prompted to let Genie know your favorite rides, attractions, and dining options at Disney World. You can select up to 8 per park. If you’ve visited before, this should be a straightforward process. If you’ve never visited before, you can use guides like our site to figure out the Disney World rides and Disney World restaurants that you should include as your top picks.
Genie will also ask you about your interests. Here, you can let Genie know that you’re interested in certain properties, like Star Wars or Disney Princesses. You can also let it know the types of attractions you enjoy, like thrill rides, or dining experiences you’d prefer, like quick service or Character dining.
From there, Genie will generate personalized recommendations based on what you said you enjoy and Disney’s own internal data.
Step 7: Use Disney Genie
You’re all set up now to use Disney Genie. Whenever you want to use Disney Genie, you can go to the sections in the app that we mentioned before:
Summon Disney Genie on the home page
“View my Genie Day and Tip Board” from the Plus button in the middle of the bottom menu.
“My Genie Day” or “Tip Board” from the three line/hamburger menu on the bottom right.
Disney Genie is divided into a Tip Board and My Day tabs. Tip Board will show you the current wait times and the soonest Lightning Lane reservation slots for attractions, as well as reservation and mobile order availability for all of the parks. My Day will show you the personalized recommendations
